A 42-year-old New Jersey mother is trying to become the world's fattest woman by nearly doubling her size and reaching 1,000 pounds in the next two years. Donna Simpson already weighs 602 pounds and uses a scooter for mobility, but she insists she's healthy. To achieve her goal, Simpson will have to consume up to 12,000 calories a day at a cost of $750 a week in food. Her boyfriend Philippe - a self confessed "fat admirer" - who weighs only 150 pounds supports her plan and actually encourages her to eat more. She also part of a Web site where men pay to watch her eat fattening foods.

Ok - so you have the back story. Now, here's what I think_ The bottom line is this woman is nuts.

Not only is she showing blatant disregard for the well-being of her two children, the potential for medical problems is unending. This is a fetish of some sort, because nobody in their logical mind would aspire to be 1,000 pounds realizing all the health consequences that come with being morbidly obese. If this woman goes through with her plan, she'll be putting herself at risk for diabetes, heart disease, pulmonary embolism, stroke, immobility, breathing problems, congestive heart failure and death - not to mention the cost of all the health care services she will inevitably end up requiring.

She's using food and weight for attention, but at the end of the day, she's shortening her life and being extremely selfish. There is a social consequence to her actions and she has a responsibility to take care of her children. How can she do that when she can't move out of her bed because she's 1,000 pounds. We have parents facing legal ramifications in this country for over-feeding their children - what about parents putting their own lives at risk for the sake of their own selfish needs and thus damaging the lives of their children?
