Move over turkey, the chicken king is coming to town.
For the first time, New York's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature Colonel Sanders and his world famous chicken.
"We've got Colonel Sanders himself, the original, of course, celebrity chef has got his new float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and that depicts his journey from Kentucky straight on into New York," said Amy Kule, the parade's executive producer.
KFC began a social media campaign last week documenting the colonel’s road trip from Kentucky to New York City for the parade.
Thursday’s parade will be the chicken chain's first appearance in the next three years. It’s also the 75th anniversary of Sanders finalizing his famous "original fried chicken recipe of 11 herbs and spices," said KFC chief marketing officer Kevin Hochman.
The Colonel isn't the only new addition. Macy's is introducing six new floats in the Thanksgiving Day parade this year with themes that also include Build-A-Bear and Peanuts.
"We've got Build a Bear workshop that is celebrating with us with their third float bringing imagination to life," said Kule. "And then lastly we've got a brand new little float from Peanuts celebrating the 50th anniversary of a Charlie Brown Christmas so Snoopy's dog house is on there. No one knows that 50 years ago his doghouse was blue. You're going to see it come to life that way this Thanksgiving."
CBS coverage of the 89th edition of the parade will air from 9 a.m. until noon.
