Ellie Krieger's Jack-o'-Lantern With Grape 'Brains'

Ellie Krieger's Halloween Grape-o'-Lantern

Looking for a way to curb your kids' candy intake this Halloween? Try keeping plenty of fresh, fun foods within reach of their grubby little hands.

That's a lot easier said than done, of course. The little devils are undoubtedly itching to start trick-or-treating, and pretty soon they'll be knee-deep in Snickers, Twix and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Your only hope is to fill their little bellies with wholesome snacks before they head out for the night.

With that in mind, it couldn't hurt to try this neat idea from Food Network personality Ellie Krieger. With just a few simple items, you might be able to convince your little ones to start eating "brains" straight from the skull of a jack grape-o'-lantern.

Here's what you'll need:

Directions:

  • Carve the pumpkin into a jack-o'-lantern as usual, making sure to carve eyes large enough to hold one grape each. Discard the pumpkin top.
  • Use a toothpick to secure one grape into each eye of the jack-o'-lantern to resemble eyeballs.
  • Arrange full bunches of grapes, stem side down, into the top of the pumpkin so they resemble brains. Arrange to your liking and place on Halloween buffet as a fun décor piece and healthy sweet snack.
