James Beard Awards announces two new categories

The James Beard Foundation is giving bakers some love.

The culinary institution announced it has added a new Outstanding Baker category to the annual awards ceremony.

The Outstanding Pastry Chef category will remain.

Two new awards will also be given in the Books, Broadcast and Journalism Awards, for Outstanding Podcast and Visual and Technical Excellence.

The foundation began accepting nominations for its 2015 awards show categories on Tuesday and semifinalists in the restaurant and chef award categories will be announced on Feb. 18, 2015.

The James Beard Foundation Awards, knows as the “Oscars of the food world,” has moved from New York City and will take place in Chicago, for the first time, next May.
