Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales, Matt Lauer and Al Roker appear on NBC News' "Today" show (NBC)

Matt Lauer is sticking with NBC's "Today" show for a few more years.

The network said Friday the veteran morning host has agreed to a contract extension for multiple years, although it would not specify how long. Lauer's future with the show, which is second behind ABC's "Good Morning America" in the ratings, was the biggest question hanging over the news division.

Terms were not disclosed; Lauer is certainly one of the highest-paid on-air persons in television news. He said he "couldn't be happier" to stay and believes he has the best job in broadcasting.

NBC News President Deborah Turness said Lauer is "the best in the business."

The contract extension was first reported in The New York Times.
