Portraying a woman in an abusive marriage on HBO’s “Big Little Lies” drove Nicole Kidman to extremes.

“I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, being in my underwear and having just been really thrown around. I just lay on the floor. I couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to get up. And I remember [director] Jean-Marc [Vallée] coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes,” the actress recalled to the Hollywood Reporter.

Kidman, 49, who played long-suffering wife Celeste to Alexander Skarsgard‘s abusive Perry, revealed the pent up aggression lead to intense reactions off-set.

“I just felt completely humiliated and devastated. And angry inside. I went home and threw a rock through a glass door,” Kidman said.

“I was obviously holding all that rage and what had been done.”

Kidman’s co-star, Reese Witherspoon, echoed the sentiment.

“We were staying at a hotel and she called me and she says, ‘I’ve just done the craziest thing.’ She got home from work and she had one of these horrible scenes and she goes, ‘I couldn’t get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window.’ And she goes, ‘I don’t do stuff like that,’ Witherspoon shared.

The Australian-born Kidman previously revealed some of the bruises she sustained while filming were very much real, alarming husband Keith Urban.

“At one point, Keith was like, ‘I’m going to take a photo of your back because it’s covered in deep, massive bruises.’ He was devastated seeing it, but then he would say, ‘But I have an artist wife!'” Kidman told Vogue.
