Sarah Paulson has confirmed her relationship with Holland Taylor, but she’s not yet ready to label herself a lesbian.

“If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that,” Paulson told the New York Times. “What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”

Paulson revealed the couple first met 10 years ago at a dinner party while she was still dating Cherry Jones, who is 18 years her senior. She thought Taylor was “probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.”

A few years ago, their paths crossed again while working on a video project for Martha Plimpton. After that second meeting, they began following each other on Twitter and exchanging direct messages, which led to dinner.

Today, they’ve been together for more than a year.

News of their love made headlines last December and the pair began making public appearances together.

Paulson for the most part has always been interested in older people. “There’s a poignancy to being with someone older,” she added. “I think there’s a greater appreciation of time and what you have together and what’s important, and it can make the little things seem very small.”
