Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal joked that Willie Robertson of AE’s reality show “Duck Dynasty” would make a good running mate at a Good Friday Prayer Breakfast in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
“He's a great guy and I think he'd make a great running mate, but it'd be a huge pay cut for him so I’m not sure if he'd be willing to do it,” joked Jindal. “He's doing pretty well.”
Both Jindal and Robertson spoke to the crowd of about 1,000 Friday morning. Willie is the CEO of the Duck Commander company that the hit reality show “Duck Dynasty” follows.
He began his speech with a short joke about the patriarch of the family, Phil Robertson, who made headlines recently for making a graphic anti-atheist speech.
“I’m not going to yell, I’m not going to scream, and hopefully I won’t offend groups of people today. However, if you’re interested in a speaker like that, there’s another Robertson family member that you can get to come up,” laughed Robertson; “Oh Phil, he makes my life interesting. Once every other week I have to say, ‘Now what you say?’”
Robertson said as he’s traveled the country he's seen things that have worried him, but he has hope, especially during the Easter season.
“I tell you what, America is screwed up in a lot of ways but at least there’s still a whole lot of people still celebrating this weekend, when we celebrate Christ coming back from the dead,” said Robertson.
He encouraged the audience to use the weekend to share the Christian message.
“You have a great opportunity this weekend to share with others. It’s a great time, people are searching. Don't let your own sinfulness hold you back,” he declared.
Robertson said these days he is focused on spreading God's message.
“Goin’ all over the country now, throwing a net out trying to get people for the Lord,” Robertson said. “It’s all about pointing people to Him, that's my only job.”
