Married '60 Minutes' correspondent Steve Kroft is in damage control after his long-running affair with another woman was revealed in a national tabloid.

"I had an extramarital affair," Kroft, 69, admitted to Page Six in a statement. "That was a serious lapse of personal judgment and extremely hurtful to my wife and family, and for that I have nothing but regret. My wife and I are committed to each other and are working hard to get past this, and consider it a private matter."

Embarrassing texts and emails between Kroft and Lisan Goines were published Wednesday in The National Enquirer. In one of the tamer texts, Kroft tells Goines: "Come [to Washington] and let me devour you."

The Enquirer said Kroft and Goines hooked up in hotels in New York and Washington DC for three years, but Kroft insists it never interfered with his job.

"This was a personal failure, not a professional one, and had no impact whatsoever on my job as a journalist," he said.
