Nickelodeon's "Sam & Cat," which, in April, was put on "permanent hiatus", has been officially cancelled, according to Deadline.

The show, which starred fan favorites Jennette McCurdy in her role as Sam, originally from the hit Nick show "iCarly," and Ariana Grande playing her friend Cat, the character she played in Nick's other hit show "Victorious."

It was supposed to be a profit machine for the network, and was a massive success in the short time it was on the air, even getting a 40-episode order from Nick.

However, behind-the-scenes drama and conflict put the show in danger early on. From Grande's burgeoning and successful music career to a leak of semi-scandalous photos featuring the 22-year-old McCurdy in lingerie, things got off on a rocky start.

There was even rumors of a major rift between the show's stars, who had been good friends in real life as well.

The network released a statement, reading, "Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of 'Sam & Cat' … We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best."

Nickelodeon will now have to find another program to be their flagship series.
