Zoe Saldana seems to have become the "it girl" for many famed directors, including James Cameron and J.J. Abrams.
But during a recent interview, the Dominican-Puerto Rican actress told Fox News Latino it was Steven Spielberg who gave her the big break she needed.
“(Spielberg) had seen a film I had been in, I was still living in New York and I sent a tape," the actress said. Spielberg was looking to cast an actress in “The Terminal” and hired Saldana after watching her taped audition.
“I ended up having such a wonderful experience working with him (Spielberg),” added the actress.
Bigger and better roles came soon after. Saldana, who reprises her role as communications specialist Nyota Uhura in "Star Trek Into Darknes," has a more important presence in this movie than she had four years ago in the franchise’s first movie. Uhura is vital to the team’s survival on the USS Enterprise.
“I’m glad that J.J. Abrams is able to see passed race, ethnicity and gender,” Saldana said. “That’s how it should be.”
Saldana confirmed to Fox News Latino that she will be in Avatar 2, making her part of three major successful movie franchises, which also include “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Star Trek.” She is also set to play Gamora in the Marvel-based comic sci-fi adventure "Guardians of the Galaxy,” a movie which currently in pre-production.
Juggling so many roles doesn’t seem to faze Saldana. When we asked how she felt about all her career accomplishments, she simply said "I feel at peace."
