A rep from St. James Palace has confirmed that The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry has applied to the Intellectual Property Office to trademark a slew of products in the foundation’s name.
“The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry is registering its name in several territories,” the rep told FOX 411.
The trademark will cover the foundation’s name in the “clothing, footwear and headgear” categories.
But before Kate fans get too excited, the rep clarified that “clothing” category doesn’t mean there is any type of royal fashion line in the works.
He explained the trademark focuses on the royals’ charities.
“At this stage there is absolutely no plan for a clothing line,” he said. “What happens is when you register with the intellectual property office you have to specify categories [you may use in the future].”
The royals selected the “clothing, footwear and headgear” categories in case one of their charities organizes, for example, a marathon with T-Shirts in the future, he said.
“If anyone wants to use [the official name] they can’t… It’s in order to protect that as a trademark,” he said.
