Shakira is ready for her close-up.
On Monday, the third season of the singing competition show “The Voice” returns with some new faces on the judge’s panel.
And this time around, the show is hoping to add some new flavor with the Latina songstress.
The highest-selling Colombian artist of all time is making her debut as the replacement judge for fellow Latina Christian Aguilera, who is taking a break from the gig to focus on her music career.
Shakira told USA Today her initial focus as a judge was “finding unique voices” – those singers who “emit passion and emotion and leave you with a lasting impression.”
“But truthfully, you really have to be willing to derail a little from your initial strategy, so you can be open to a moving performance and just believe in your gut."
So far, Shakira seems to have held her own against her predecessor’s eclectic judging style.
Fellow judge, Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine, said Shakira is a “firecracker” on the show. The show’s executive producer Mark Burnet described the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer as “eclectic.”
“She just emanates this light source,” Burnet told USA Today. “It's hard not to fall in love with her."
On Sunday night, the Latina took to twitter to tease to her fans about the premiere.
"Excited to give the boys @blakeshelton @UsherRaymondIV and @adamlevine a run for their money tomorrow on @NBCTheVoice!"
NBC said that while Aguilera and judge Cee Lo Green, who is being replaced by the singer Usher, are taking a break, they are both expected to return to “The Voice” for its fourth season.
