The pressure was on during day two of the boot camp auditions on “The X Factor” Thursday night as contestants flopped left and right on the singing competition.
One of Demi Lovato’s favorite contenders, Jillian Jensen, managed not to crack under the stress and wowed the judges, but her competitor, Latasha Robinson, has no such luck.
Jensen and Robinson were up against each other, singing a medley of Sugarland’s song “Stay,” when Robinson blanked out, forgetting the lyrics and leaving Jensen to shine.
“So sorry,” said Robinson. “I knew all the words back there,” she told the judges embarrassed.
“She really did. She really did a great job with it,” said Jensen, trying to help Robinson in front of the judges, to no avail.
Music producer and executive L.A. Reid thought Robinson’s performance “was horrible,” but pop princesses Britney Spears and Demi Lovato empathized with Robinson.
“She’s so talented,” said Spears. “She was just nervous [and] to go up against Jillian is really hard.”
“You can tell that the pressure is really getting to them,” Lovato added.
Robinson was inconsolable as she ran off the stage.
“I’m very, very upset right now and disappointed in myself, “ Robinson said. “I humiliated myself in front of them judges.”
“I worked my a** off and I didn’t even remember the damn words,” she added. “I went up there and made myself look stupid and that little 19-year-old girl just stood there and outshined me.”
Jensen may have “outshined” Robinson, but the teen, who revealed she once was heavily bullied, was concerned for Robinson.
“I think I did really good,” she said. “I sang from my heart.”
“But, it really broke my heart to watch Latasha struggling,” she added. “I hope she’s OK right now.”
