NEW YORK – Martha Stewart announced Thursday that her cooking show is heading to PBS after failing to gain traction on the Hallmark Channel after nearly two years.
"Martha Stewart's Cooking School," her new, weekly 30-minute program, will debut this fall on PBS stations across the US, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia said in a statement.
"PBS is the perfect home for this series. We'll show viewers how to prepare classic dishes as well as how to use proper techniques. This new series combines so many of my passions: teaching and encouraging others," Stewart, 70, said in the statement.
"We will break down classic recipes for home cooks and inspire them to add their unique twist. I'm excited to get into the kitchen and connect with audiences across the nation," the domestic diva added.
Public television, which has featured cooking shows with famous chefs such as Julia Child and Jacques Pepin, is expected to be a better fit for Stewart.
She moved her syndicated "The Martha Stewart Show" to the Hallmark cable network in September 2010 but her audience did not follow her.
In January, the New York Post reported Stewart's daily show would end on Hallmark in May to make room for a daily show fronted by veteran song-and-dance entertainer Marie Osmond.
The Hallmark Channel did not respond to a request for comment.
