American Idol: Casey Abrams Saved!

In an unexpected turn of events, American Idol judges used their one and only safe card—without even listening to the contestant sing the dreaded swan song.

What no one saw coming was husky-voiced Casey Abrams almost going home.

After all, he blew the judges away Wednesday night with his own interpretation of Marvin Gaye’s 1966 song, “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.”

As Abrams took the microphone one last time and started singing his song American Idol judge and music producer Randy Jackson threw his hands signaling for everything to halt.

“We know who you are Casey,” said Jackson. “We don’t need to hear you sing anymore. Do we Steven?”

Rock star Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler agreed.

“Yes, this is crazy wrong,” he said. “We made a decision here to keep you on.”

Upon hearing this Abrams began convulsing, barely being able to catch his breath.

“Are you kidding me?” asked Abrams. “I can’t believe it! Oh my God!”

Abrams, 19, jumped off the stage in pure excitement to shake the judges hands as the audience in solidarity began chanting repeatedly “Casey, Casey, Casey!”

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest seemed equally stunned as the crowd.

“So, the judges will use their one save of the season for Casey Abrams ladies and gentleman,” Seacrest said. “Congratulations!”

Abrams couldn’t seem to get a grasp of the decision the veteran musicians had taken for his American Idol fate.

“I knew that if there was someone that got cut tonight, I thought that they wouldn’t use the save because there are 11 people,” said Abrams.

“The fact that they… you… Oh my God! It’s unreal! I started singing and the fact that you cut it… it scared the stuff out of me.”

Although the judges gave Abrams a second chance, they made sure to lay down the law of what they expect in the future.

“I just want you to know, look out into the horizon. There’s a lot of nice, big, wave of hard earned good fortune coming your way,” said Tyler.

“But, listen to Jennifer for a minute here.”

Jennifer told Casey what he should keep in mind for the weeks ahead.

“Hey baby, we were wondering when we heard the results what is going on, why is Casey at the bottom?” López said.

“No more antics. Just let people feel your soul and you’re going to stay. You deserve to be here.”

Abrams' save altered the course of the singing competition-- surprising the audience yet again.

“Two people will go home next week,” said Seacrest. [But] all will go on tour! Enjoy America!”
