“Wizards of Waverly Place” star Selena Gomez performed at UNICEF’s Trick-or-Treat 60 benefit birthday celebration at the Roxy Hotel in West Hollywood.
The Mexican-American actress, who since 2009 is the youngest ambassador for the humanitarian organization, streamed the concert live on her website--SelenaGomez.com so her fans could watch the event.
Gomez has been the Trick-or-Treat UNICEF National spokesperson for three years in a row.
“The show tonight was incredible,” twitted Gomez hours after the benefit had concluded. “Thank you so much for everyone that was a part of that! UNICEF and myself are beyond grateful! Love you guys.”
The former “Barney and Friends” kid is urging her fans to carry UNICEF's little orange collection box while they trick-or-treat this Halloween. She wants them to collect funds to help provide health care, clean water, food and education for children around the world.
On UNICEF’s website, Gomez is quoted saying that: “for American children and parents, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF offers an impactful way to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children,” said the 18-year-old.
Gomez’s first UNICEF mission took her to the Ghana in West Africa, where she interacted with children that the organization is helping to obtain everyday necessities such as food, water and health care.
According to UNICEF, Gomez has been an invaluable addition to the organization. She has been linked to other UNICEF initiates such as “Tap Project”, which provides children world-wide with clean water, the “UNICEF Snowflake Ball” the diamonds hang in New York City as a reminder of UNICEF’s cause, and the “ELIMINATE project” a program striving to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus on a global scale.
