The Nissan Murano is going ultramodern.
The 2015 Murano is a near carbon copy of the automaker’s radical Resonance concept unveiled last year, and a sure standout in the large crossover class.
Bigger than the outgoing model, the new Murano features some of the most complex bodywork on any automobile today, a floating roof effect created with wraparound windows, and an overall windswept look that Nissan calls V-Motion.
Inside, premium materials are used throughout, including creamy leathers, super soft-touch plastics and high-grade wood trim.
Nissan’s NASA-inspired “zero-gravity” seat technology is borrowed from the Altima sedan, which reduces pressure points to improve comfort.
The Murano will be powered by a 260 hp 3.5-liter V6 at launch, but a hybrid version will be added later. Fuel economy is said to be up to 20 percent better than the current Murano’s 24 mpg highway.
High tech features abound, including Infiniti’s Around View Monitor, which provides a bird’s eye view of the car to assist with parking, and radar cruise control.
Production of the Murano moves from Japan to Mississippi with the new model. Pricing will be announced closer to its on sale date later this year, but Nissan positions the Murano as a near-premium vehicle, and the 2014 model has a starting price of $29,300.
