Zimbabwe police have charged a local pastor who claimed God told him President Robert Mugabe will die this year.
Phillip Patrick Mugadza was detained Monday in the capital, Harare. His lawyer, Gift Mtisi, said Tuesday that he is yet to appear in court.
Mtisi said Mugadza was charged with "unlawfully acting in a manner which is likely to create public nuisance" after "giving a prophecy" the 92-year-old Mugabe will die on Oct. 17.
Mtisi says police initially wanted to charge Mugadza with insulting the president.
The pastor also faces charges in three other cases: chaining himself near Parliament in protest last year, allegedly wearing the national flag without authorization last year and staging a one-man protest at the venue of a ruling party conference in 2015.
