Yemen's government reverses decision to quit Kuwait talks

Yemen's state television says the nation's internationally-recognized government has agreed to extend peace talks in Kuwait with Shiite rebels, reversing an earlier decision to quit the negotiations.

In a report aired early Sunday, the television said the decision to continue the talks was made after President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi consulted with advisers.

It said Hadi has also accepted proposals put forward by U.N. envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed for the rebels to pull out of cities, including the capital Sanaa, and hand over weapons looted from army depots within 45 days.

Hadi's government is backed by a U.S.-assisted, Saudi-led military coalition that has been fighting the Shiite rebels, also known as the Houthis, and their allies since March 2015.
