An Alabama woman, who says her fiance is an undocumented immigrant, threatened the governor's life over the state's tough law cracking down on illegal immigration, authorities say.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports that 38-year-old Tiffany R. Morales is accused of calling Gov. Robert Bentley's office Sept. 29 and saying a member of his staff: "Tell the governor he has a bullet with his name on it."
Morales was arrested Oct. 1 and charged with threatening certain state officers, a felony. She could spend up to five years in jail if convicted.
According to the newspaper, the 5-foot-tall Morales became emotional during the hearing on Friday after the prosecutor noted that her fiance had fled, leaving Morales on her own.
"That's not true. I have letters," she said.
Her fiance told investigators that he was "out of here" and was leaving Morales. There is no information to suggest that the fiance is being questioned under Alabama's new immigration law, according to the Montgomery Advertiser report.
Her lawyer said at a hearing Friday that Morales has medical problems and a nervous condition and shouldn't be considered a threat.
The judge denied Morales' request to reduce her bond and ordered that she undergo a mental evaluation.
