The leader of Venezuela's congressional opposition bloc says a government supporter hit him in the face with a pipe as he was attempting to make his way into a government building.
Congressman Julio Borges delivered a press conference after Thursday's attack with blood streaming down his face and bloody stains on his button-down shirt. He accused police of pushing him toward pro-government thugs.
Borges had been attempting to enter the headquarters of the country's electoral body in downtown Caracas with other opposition figures.
The opposition is pushing for a recall referendum against unpopular President Nicolas Maduro this year. They accuse the elections officials of dragging their feet to delay the process. Borges said the officials refused to meet Thursday.
