The U.N. envoy for Libya is proposing an "ideal timetable" that would have Libya's feuding parties agree on a national unity government in the next three weeks and sign a peace agreement in the first weeks of September.
But Bernardino Leon told a news conference Tuesday in Geneva that this will depend on the political will, wisdom and creativity of the parties to bring good names and good proposals to the negotiating table.
Leon said the U.N. is glad that all key actors showed up for peace talks and expressed hope they will sit down together for talks.
Libya descended into chaos following the 2011 civil war that ended dictator Moammar Gadhafi's rule, with rival governments in its east and west and parts of the country run by Islamic militants.
