Britain's data protection watchdog says it is looking into reports of a data breach on the website of the London Marathon.

The BBC reported that the home and email addresses of 38,000 marathon runners were accidentally published on the website Monday.

The report said the details included those of several celebrities and politicians who took part in the Sunday run.

The Information Commissioner's Office said Tuesday it will investigate. London Marathon organizers were not immediately available for comment.

The runners' private data did not appear to be available on the site Tuesday.
