The Turkish Armed Forces says its units caught 49 people trying to cross illegally from Turkey to Syria on Friday.
In a statement on daily activities, the Turkish Army also says 1,392 people who tried to illegally pass from Syria to Turkey have been apprehended.
Turkey and Syria share a 566-mile-long porous border that has been a crucial escape route for 2.75 million refugees who have fled to Turkey from the ongoing Syrian civil war. At the same time, the permeable border has been used by militants to cross into Syria.
Turkey has been criticized for allowing the flow of militants but Turkish officials reject the claim that Ankara knowingly has allowed jihadis to cross the border.
