Troops use controlled blast after arms depot fire

Venezuela's military says it has set off a controlled detonation to dispose of unexploded ordnance at an arms depot that was ravaged by a fire and a series of blasts.

Gen. Cliver Alcala tells state television the explosion was carried out at one of the four sites where the fire broke out.

State television says the remaining explosives included 29 grenades.

Officials are investigating the cause of Sunday's blast, which killed a woman and prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents in the city of Maracay.

Rafael Isea is governor of Aragua state, where Maracay is located. He said Monday that people were beginning to return to their homes.
