Venezuela's Independence is tied to the history of slavery in the New World. Simón Bolívar and his followers campaigned against the Spanish tirelessly, marching across the Andes and liberating Colombia in 1819, Venezuela in 1821, and Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia in 1825.
