BEIRUT-- Activists say Syrian security forces have opened fire on a funeral procession in Damascus killing at least one person.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees, an opposition group, say at least five people were also wounded Saturday in the central neighborhood of Midan during the funeral of a teenager killed a day earlier.

On Friday, security forces opened fire at protesters in different parts of Syria killing at least 11.

The uprising against President Bashar Assad's regime began in mid-March amid a wave of anti-government protests in the Arab world that toppled autocrats in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.

Assad retaliated with a crackdown that according to the U.N. has left more than 3,000 dead.
