South African hostage held by al-Qaida in Yemen is killed in US rescue attempt

JOHANNESBURG – An aid group says that South African Pierre Korkie was one of two hostages held by al-Qaida in Yemen who were killed in an attempted rescue mission by the United States early Saturday morning.

Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of the Gift of the Givers group told the South African Press Agency Saturday that Korkie was killed in the effort to release hostages.
