Switzerland's wealthiest are warning they might leave the country if a proposal to revise the tax system is passed in a Nov. 28 referendum.
Billionaires including elevator magnate Alfred N. Schindler say the proposal puts an unfair burden on the rich.
Backers including the Social Democrat party say the plan will end tax competition within Switzerland by introducing a minimum tax across all 26 cantons, or states.
A survey published Wednesday by polling group gfs.bern shows voters' enthusiasm for the proposal is waning after protests from business groups.
The poll of 771 voters conducted Nov.8-13 found that approval for the plan has dropped 12 percent to 46 percent since October. Opposition has grown from 23 percent to 39 percent.
