MEXICO CITY – Federal prosecutors in Mexico say they are investigating the slaying of a retired general who was shot outside Mexico City after a road accident.
The federal prosecutors office says it has taken on the investigation because of suspicions that organized crime is involved.
Retired Gen. Jorge Juarez Loera was killed in a suburb of the capital Friday, but the defense ministry didn't announce his death until Sunday.
Juarez Loera previously served as commander of a military region that includes the drug trafficker-ridden states of Chihuahua and Coahuila in Mexico's north.
