Reports: 3 ex-Red Army Faction suspects linked to robbery

Published January 19, 2016

Associated Press

Three former members of the disbanded leftist Red Army Faction terrorist group who remain at large have reportedly been linked to a botched armored car robbery near Bremen last summer.

The NDR public broadcaster first reported that DNA matching that of Daniela Klette, Ernst-Volker Wilhelm Staub and Burkhard Garweg was found in the getaway cars used in the June 6 crime.

Investigators weren't immediately available for comment but police confirmed the details to the dpa news agency Tuesday.

In the robbery, three masked assailants blocked the armored car in a parking lot, then one opened fire on the vehicle but they were unable to get inside.

NDR reports that DNA evidence also linked Klette and Staub to a similar armored-car robbery in 1999.
