A renegade Ugandan general who fled the country last year over an alleged threat to his life has returned to Uganda in what appears to be a negotiated settlement with Uganda's long-serving leader.
Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi, a lawyer for Gen. David Sejusa, said his client returned from London early Sunday and was officially received by the head of Uganda's domestic security agency.
The return of Sejusa, who charged that Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was a dictator with a plan to rule for life, has surprised many in this East African country. The army had previously said Sejusa faces charges of treason.
On Monday Uganda's ruling party will hold a conference during which Museveni is widely expected to be designated as the sole candidate in the next elections.
