Pope Francis has arrived on the tiny Sicilian island of Lampedusa to pray for migrants lost at sea as another boatload carrying Eritreans came ashore.
Francis came to pray with survivors of the treacherous crossing from Africa and mourn those who have died trying. He flew Monday from Rome to Lampedusa's airport and traveled by coast guard ship to the island's main port, where he threw a wreath of flowers into the sea to remember migrants who died. Later he celebrates Mass.
As he was landing, a boat carrying 162 Eritreans arrived in port. Officials said they were in good condition, just cold.
Lampedusa is closer to Africa than the Italian mainland and is the main port of entry into Italy for migrants smuggled by boat.
