Police: Israeli soldier stabbed in attack in north of country; Palestinian suspect apprehended

Israeli police say a soldier has been stabbed multiple times in an attack in northern Israel and is in critical condition.

Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld says a Palestinian man has been apprehended in the stabbing, which took place on Wednesday in the town of Afula.

No other details were immediately available.

The attack comes at a sensitive time as the two sides resumed peace talks in late July, after a nearly five-year break.

Also, there has been an uptick in deadly violence between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank recently, undermining the efforts to make progress in the faltering negotiations.
