Police have apprehended a man accused of killing six people in a shooting spree in Russia's southwest earlier this week.
Police in the city of Belgorod said in a statement Wednesday that they detained 31-year-old Sergei Pomazun outside a train station. They said he injured a police officer with a knife while resisting arrest.
A man opened fire Monday afternoon while attempting to rob a gun store, killing four employees. He then started shooting on the street outside, killing a 14-year-old girl, before escaping in a car. A second girl, aged 16, later died in the hospital.
Police said Wednesday some 2,000 people were involved in the two-day-long operation to find the suspected shooter.
Russia's Investigative Committee said on Wednesday that Pomazun has refused to cooperate with officials.
