A spokeswoman says Poland's president will accept the resignation of the coalition Cabinet this week and will appoint a candidate for prime minister to form a new government from the ruling coalition.
The change is necessary, in line with Poland's constitution, after European Union leaders chose Prime Minister Donald Tusk to be the next head of the European Council, starting in December.
Spokeswoman Joanna Trzaska-Wieczorek said President Bronislaw Komorowski discussed the political timetable Monday with Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechocinski, the leader of the junior coalition member, the Polish Peasants' Party. Parliament Speaker Ewa Kopacz is the coalition's candidate for new premier, but needs Komorowski's endorsement.
In October, the full new Cabinet should be in place and approved by the Parliament.
