The Pakistani military says a suicide bomber targeting a security forces' vehicle near the country's capital has killed two soldiers and three civilians.

In a statement, the military said two officers died in the explosion on Wednesday morning.

Police official Altaf Ahmad says the two officers were on their way to work when the bomber on foot detonated his explosives near their double-cabin truck, killing them both. The explosion happened outside the capital, Islamabad.

It was not clear whether the civilians were also in the vehicle or on the street nearby when the bomb went off.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Suspicion will likely fall on the Pakistani Taliban who frequently target Pakistan's military and security forces.
