A top Mexican official is warning that roadblocks by protesting teachers in restive southern states must end immediately.
Interior Secretary Miguel Angel Osorio Chong says the unrest has hurt millions in Oaxaca and Chiapas. He adds that the protests are keeping people and commerce from circulating freely, harming small businesses and keeping children out of school.
Osorio Chong and other officials have been in talks with representatives of the teachers, who oppose recent education reforms that the government says are now the law and cannot be reversed.
But Osorio Chong said Friday that "the time is up." He repeated the phrase twice for emphasis.
The secretary said authorities would soon be taking "necessary decisions" to restore free transit on highways and delivery of provisions to cut-off communities.
