Mexico City – Mexico's navy says the country's marines have captured a drug cartel suspect who was carrying the ID cards of a victim in the May slayings of three news photographers and a newspaper employee.
The navy says suspect Juan Carlos Hernandez Pulido is a local chief of informers for the Jalisco Nueva Generacion drug gang.
The navy said Monday that Hernandez Pulido was carrying the ID cards of Irasema Becerra, who was killed along with the three photographers in May.
Becerra had been an administrative worker at a local newspaper. In addition to her death, five journalists have been killed in Veracruz state so far this year.
Hernandez Pulido was detained Friday in the Gulf Coast port city of Veracruz.
