A mediator says that the main separatist Tuareg rebel group did not sign a peace accord that Mali's government and other armed groups agreed to.
Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra, who represents the mediators, said Friday that Mali's government, allied armed groups and two groups under the separatist coalition did sign the agreement. He said the three most important groups in the coalition, including the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad, did not sign.
Mohamed Mahmoud Ag Ousmane, a member of a separatist group that signed, said he hopes the other groups will soon sign the accord that is the result of negotiations in Algeria.
A growing number of attacks in recent weeks that have left at least 40 dead cast doubt on a peace deal.
