Man executed in Gaza for collaborating with Israel

Gaza's Hamas rulers have executed a man convicted of collaborating with Israel.

Hamas' Interior Ministry said on Thursday that the man was put to death by a firing squad. His execution Wednesday was the 11th in Gaza since Hamas violently wrested control of the territory in June 2007.

It was carried out shortly before Hamas signed a reconciliation deal with the rival Fatah movement to form a unity government.

Fatah, in contrast to Hamas, favors peace with Israel, and Fatah-led security forces in the West Bank cooperate with the Israeli military.

In addition to the executions, human rights organizations have accused Hamas of killing suspected collaborators during Israel's Gaza offensive in the winter of 2008-2009.
