Police in Macedonia say five people, including two police officers, have been injured and 14 people detained for questioning following riots triggered by the slaying of five fishermen that has stoked ethnic tension.

The clashes occurred late Monday between riot police and hundreds of youths in Macedonia's capital, Skopje, who chanted anti-Albanian slogans, threw rocks at police and vandalized property. The arrests and injuries were announced Tuesday.

The Albanian lake fishermen were found shot dead last week. Police have not commented on reports that the killings may have been racially motivated.

Ethnic Albanians make up a quarter of Macedonia's population of 2.1 million. Tensions with the Macedonian majority have simmered since a 2001 uprising by ethnic Albanian rebels.
