A Libyan-American group has filed a complaint with the United Nations and is demanding its internal oversight body investigate the circumstances surrounding a job the U.N.'s former envoy to Libya has accepted from the United Arab Emirates, which backs one of the country's rival governments.
The Libyan American Public Affairs Council told The Associated Press on Thursday that Bernardino Leon's job offer represents a conflict of interest, has damaged the United Nation's reputation and threatens the future of Libya by giving an unfair advantage to one side of the conflict.
Libya remains split between two rival governments who are being urged by the international community to approve a proposed peace agreement.
Leon's replacement as the U.N.'s Libya envoy, Martin Kobler, took up his post Tuesday.
