A Kuwaiti member of the royal family has apologized for raising a case against former senior officials whom he accused of plotting a coup.
Sheikh Ahmed Fahad Al Sabah expressed his "sincere apologies" Thursday on Kuwaiti TV. He says he was "misinformed" about the plot — allegedly captured on video — to overthrow the government. He gave no further details.
Last week, prosecutors threw out the closely watched case because of a lack of evidence after a probe was launched a year ago.
The complaint raised by Fahad, a nephew of the ruler, had accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Sabah and former parliament speaker Jassem al-Karafi of conspiring to topple the government, laundering money and tampering with public funds.
