A look at the senior al-Qaida and Taliban commanders killed or arrested in Pakistan since the Sept. 11 attacks:

May 2011

Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaida, was killed in a raid by U.S. Navy Seals in the northwestern city of Abbottabad.

May 2010

— Mustafa al-Yazid, al-Qaida's No. 3 leader and top commander in Afghanistan, was killed in a missile strike in the North Waziristan tribal area near the Afghan border.

February 2010

— Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban's No. 2 leader and top military commander, was captured in Karachi.

— Mullah Abdul Kabir, the top Taliban commander in eastern Afghanistan, was arrested at an unknown location.

December 2009

— Saleh al-Somali, a top al-Qaida commander responsible for the group's operations outside Pakistan and Afghanistan, was killed in a missile strike.

August 2009

— Baitullah Mehsud, leader of the Pakistani Taliban, was killed in a missile strike in the South Waziristan tribal area near the Afghan border.
