Philip Kives, the tireless pitchman whose television commercials sold everything from vegetable slicers to hit music records, has died at age 87.
His daughter, Samantha Kives, said Thursday that Kives died a day earlier after being hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.
Kives was born on a small farm near Ounge, Saskatchewan, and grew up in poverty during the Depression in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
He became wealthy after founding marketing company K-tel International. The company sold everything from Miracle Brush hair removers to Veg-o-matic vegetable slicers and vinyl albums with such titles as "Goofy Greats."
