Iraqi officials say gunmen using silenced weapons have killed two Iraqi policemen in northeastern Baghdad.

Police say the gunmen attacked a police patrol on Sunday morning, opening fire from a speeding car in the mostly Shiite neighborhood of Ur. A third policeman was wounded in the attack, they said.

A medic at the nearby Imam Ali hospital confirmed the casualties.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Security forces and government offices are top targets for insurgents seeking to undermine the Shiite-led Iraqi government.
