Two Rwandan men have been convicted by a German court over crimes committed by a mostly ethnic-Hutu militia in eastern Congo.
The state court in Stuttgart convicted Ignace Murwanashyaka and Straton Musoni of leadership in a terrorist organization, and Murwanashyaka also was found guilty Monday of being an accessory to war crimes. Murwanashyaka was sentenced to 13 years in prison and Musoni to eight years.
Both lived in Germany.
The court found that Murwanashyaka facilitated crimes committed in Congo in 2009 in his capacity as president of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, known by its French acronym FDLR, though it didn't find evidence that he ordered them as a military commander.
Monday's verdict brings to an end a trial that has lasted for more than four years.
