Ex-Philippine military chief who shot self buried

A former Philippine military chief who committed suicide after being accused in a corruption scandal has been buried at a heroes' cemetery.

Military pallbearers brought the flag-draped coffin of Ret. Gen. Angelo Reyes, who also served as defense chief, to his tomb on Sunday at the National Heroes' Cemetery as his widow and sons wept and dropped petals on his casket.

Reyes, 65, shot himself in the chest with a pistol at his mother's grave Tuesday after he and two other ex military chiefs of staff were accused of pocketing millions of dollars in payoffs. Reyes had denied the accusation.

Sen. Franklin Drilon said senators will continue their investigation and may invite Reyes's widow to testify after a period of mourning.
